Camping with Dad

Cole and I went on our first father-and-sons campout on Friday and Saturday up by East Canyon Reservoir. On our way up we stopped at Burger King for dinner where Cole wanted to play on the toys rather than eat and then had to have a crown for the drive up to the camp. Once there, dad did most of the tent and camp set up while Cole ran around with the other kids from the ward playing in the trees and tall grass. I convinced Cole to stay away from the river by reinforcing his belief that there were alligators in the water. It worked! :) Our next door neighbor Kaden Meyers was there and he and Cole played together all night and ate tons of candy, which only fueled their energy. Their favorite game was playing in the dark with their flashlights and shinning it in everyone's eyes. Cole also enjoyed going in and out of the tent so that he could unzip the door and all the windows and then zip them up again. Sleep didn't come until 10:30 pm after 3 books and numerous answering of Cole's questions about sleeping in the tent and sleeping bags. Cole actually awoke at 5:30 am because the sunlight was starting to come through the tent, but after a few minutes of discussion I convinced him it was still night time and he went back to sleep. Saturday morning we had pancakes and eggs for breakfast and then we went for a hike up the hill. Actually Cole rode on my shoulders most of the time while I hiked. We saw a Hawk by her nest and flying around and we could see the whole canyon and Weber River from the top of the hill. After that Cole and Kaden ran around in the grass and trees again for an hour before loading up and driving home. It was a fun but tiring experience, but one I'm looking forward to having every year!
