January 8, 2008

Dear Cole,

Hey sweet boy a lot has happened since I last wrote in here. We added to our family with your baby sister Abby. She was born on November 9, 2007. You were so excited for her to join our family. I don’t think you truly realized how much life was going to change, but none the less you were excited. A day after she born you came to the Hospital to meet Abby, when you walked through the door sadly enough I knew that my baby boy was big now. I had only not seen you for a day and yet you looked like you had grown a foot and gained 5 lbs. You were now a big brother and wore your big brother shirt proudly. I just want you to know that you were Abby’s biggest protector. You always are making sure Abby is okay and comfortable. When anybody gets around her you let them know they can’t have her, she is your little sister. You have been such a tremendous help to me by getting things for me and by talking to Abby when I need to do something really quick. You were a little out of sorts for the first month that she was home. You couldn’t understand why I had to feed Abby right away or why I was always holding Abby. I felt bad that you were feeling a little neglected, but you have grown out of it and are acting more like yourself now. I tried my hardest to make sure every day that I spent time with just you and I tell you more than I can count that I love you. Thank you for your patience with me and for being such a big helper!

Here is an example of what a caring big brother that you are. The other day Abby was being fussy and I was rocking her and you came up and asked if you could kiss Abby on the head. I told you sure, and the next thing I knew is that that sweet, tough little boy gently kissed baby sister Abby on the head and said “It’s okay Abby. Big brother here, and make it all better.” I hope that throughout your guys life you remember how much you love each other and how much you can depend on your family to be there for you. You are such a sweet spirit Cole who cares about how everyone is feeling.

I now have a funny story for you. We are still working on potty training, it is getting better, but we are still working on it. You now wear underwear most of the day, but still you will not go number two on the toilet. Anyways you had woke up one morning and wanted to put on under wear so I thought great. You diaper from the night before was completely full weighing in at about 5 lbs (I am not exaggerating, you pee like crazy), and I asked you if you needed to go potty. Of course you said no and me being stupid listened to this and went in my bedroom to tend to Abby. Well about a minute later you come in my room saying me wet. I was not happy at this and proceeded to set you in the bathroom so I could find where you had peed your pants. I am crawling around on my knees in you room trying to find the spot and I am not finding anything. So I then ask you where you wet your pants and you come into your room and show me the heater vent by your window. You have got to be kidding me, is what I am thinking at this point. Sure enough when I get over there the vent is completely wet and there is pee down the vent. I will say I was mad at this because I just knew that your room was going to permanently smell like pee. So I go get a towel and whatever cleaner I can find and then proceed to attempt to stick my arm as far down the vent as I can go to get all the pee out. I even got a stick down there with a towel duck taped to the end trying to get as much out as I can. I did the best I could and called it quits. Then you took a quick bath and we headed to Walmart where I purchased a few different air fresheners so that I could attempt to mask the smell. You did a real number that time, and I will have to say it is extremely funny now whenever I tell people, but at the time it was not.J

We have also had Christmas, and this year you were so excited. You asked Santa for Mickey, and Minnie, and a Castle. You left Santa some cookies and milk in hopes of gifts and you got them. You got a Mickey doll and Abby got a Minnie doll (which is basically yours at this point in time), and you also got a Fisher Price Imaginext Castle which you absolutely love. It is the toy that you play with the most. You had fun opening a few presents, but got sick of it after a while. I am sure that will not be the case as you get older. Christmas was a blast because you had fun playing with your cousins and your toys. What a lucky kid.

Well bug, I love you tons and I hope you always will remember that. You are an angel from Heaven and I am glad that I have you!

Love,
Mom
P.S. What a cute baby boy bum!
